Applicable from August 1, the change marks a 43% increase in proof of funds before students can get their hands on a French study visa.
Prospective students must also prove they have these funds for the duration of their stay in France, according to new rules brought in by the French government.
Students can show they have the minimum sufficient funds through personal savings, a financial guarantor, a scholarship or any other documents supported by the French government.
“Applicants are advised to anticipate this change when planning their studies in France and preparing their administrative procedures,” said Campus France, commenting on the news.
It also advised all students hoping to study in France to make sure that all of their financial documents comply with the new thresholds before they submit their application.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that France would increase tuition fees for the majority of non-EU international students studying in the country, starting from the 2026/27 academic year.
